For the month of December, it has been our tradition to do a daily Advent activity in place of a traditional candy Advent calendar. I love the Christmas season and it is really important to me that we never lose sight of what is most important during Christmas – anticipating the arrival of Jesus! Advent is a season of waiting and preparing our hearts for celebrating the birth of Jesus.
In order to foster that excitement and anticipation, we have made it a tradition to do a festive family activity every day in December. Some days it’s a super simple activity like “read a Christmas book by the fire” or “work on a Christmas puzzle together”. Some days it’s a bigger activity like “put on pajamas and take a drive to look at Christmas lights” or “go to zoo lights”.

It’s often times actually less about what we’re doing than it is about the anticipation of opening the envelopes every day to see what’s inside!
For the past several years we have used this leather pocket Advent calendar but before that I made my own using some canvas I bought at the fabric store! I’ve also included a round-up of several that would work here!

I’ve created a list of more than 50 ideas that you can use to start your own Christmas Activity Advent Tradition! It also includes a blank calendar at the end that you can print and use to plan out your month. Be sure to take in to account the events and activities you already have on your calendar so you can plan around those! Download your free pdf here.
